Things You Shouldn’t Be Doing
In this final article of this series, we’re talking about how doing things you shouldn’t be doing steals your attention from doing the things you should be doing.
What do I mean by this?
When you’ve planned on your calendar to write an outline of your podcast episode from 1-2 pm but then you are doing little tasks in the business that your assistant is supposed to do, you’re doing things you shouldn’t be doing.
When you’ve planned to write an email for your email list, and then you are doing the laundry instead, you’re doing something you shouldn’t be doing at that time.
In order to operate at our highest level and create more time to do the things we want to do, we have to start being honest with ourselves about doing things we shouldn’t be doing.
We only are to be doing the things we have planned for ourselves.
& even then, when we grow, we’ll find that we may be planning for ourselves to do things that no longer makes sense for us to be doing.
For example, if we’re doing a manual process that could be more automated or if we’re doing something that someone with a much lower rate than we do could do for us when our business can afford it, we’re doing things we shouldn’t be doing. We’re limiting ourselves by doing things that no longer make sense for the level we are at.
Next time you are planning your calendar for the week, ask yourself if it makes sense for you to be the one doing it.
Also, next time you’re doing laundry in the middle of the day, ask yourself, “Am I supposed to be doing this right now?”
Tell yourself the truth, with compassion.
